Abstract

The article analyzes the language of translations from Greek to Russian of the translator of the Ambassadorial Office, Greek in the Russian service, of Manuil Matveev Filadenskii, whose activity as an interpreter and then translator of the Ambassadorial Office can be traced in the documents of the RGADA, mainly created in the period 1629—1638. Thanks to the translator’s drafts, identified by the paleographic method, there is a lot of material for research. Particular attention is paid to the translator’s literacy, his choice of lexical resources, the accuracy of the translation, the correction of translation. For the first time is published a translation of the letter of Patriarch Kirill Lukaris of Constantinople to the Russian tsar, sent with his confidant Archimandrite Amphilochius (July 1629), which was completed by Manuel Matveev on May 23, 1630.
