Abstract

The turn of the 19th — 20th centuries is the heyday of Russian culture in its various manifestations, the time of the search and formation of the national artistic style. The same period is associated with the external discovery of Russian art, an increased interest in it on the part of European art critics and the public. The process of popularizing Russian art abroad was associated with many different factors, including the specifics of international relations. An important role here was played by specific personalities who fulfilled the mission of cultural diplomacy and sought to share their love for Russian artistic traditions with the whole world. The contribution of the princes Vyacheslav Nikolaevich and Princess Maria Klavdievna Tenishevs to the popularization of Russian culture abroad can hardly be overestimated. An important role here was played by the efforts of the prince as general commissioner of the Russian department at the World Exhibition in Paris in 1900, his support for his wife's initiatives and financial resources, which helped Princess Tenisheva to make people talk about Talashkino and the Russian national style throughout Europe. The artistic and organizational talent of M. K. Tenisheva, her dedication to art, her desire to live and work for Russia, glorifying Russian artistic traditions.
