Abstract

The article is dedicated to the important science problem of the ethnostereotypes formation. So called “Le débat des hérauts d'armes de France et d'Angleterre” was selected as a source for this analysis. It was written by two authors — French and English ones. The first part, has been written by French author in the 15th century, was rewritten by English merchant — John Coke in the middle of 16th century with adding his own opinions. The emphasis is on the English part of the work, although stereotypes should be studied by analyzing the mutual representations of peoples. The formation of ethnic stereotypes is considered in the framework of the formation of the national identity of the English and French for almost 100 years. The author of the article tries to consider the problem of ethnostereotypes in the framework of historical research, which has its own specifics and differs from sociological or ethnopsychological research.
