A Semiotic Point of View on Transhumanism and Artificial Intelligence in Fiction of the Early 21th Century

The article examines the phenomena of Artificial Intelligence and transhumanism from the point of view of modern European semiotics and taking into account the recent UNESCO publications on this topic. The analysis is based on literary material: the novel “Never Let Me Go” by Kazuo Ishiguro (2005/2018). Fiction, with a large number of dystopias, clearly reflects the problem of the « ethical framework » of progress associated with the development of artificial intelligence. The transhuman collective in this novel is presented as a special form of the semiotic collective actant, opposed to the “traditional” human community.
