Abstract

The complex of Thebes tablets Wu makes clear, that the gathering of animals for a sacrifice could be produced in two ways: using different obligations introduced by the state (together with the institutions named qe-te-a2, a-ko-ra) or due to those who belonged to upper social class. The same man from upper class could deliver the animal for a feast as a private person (by putting a seal near the ideogram of the animal) or as bureaucrat of the palace administration, ensuring the fulfillment of obligations imposed by the palace. In the first case he had the honour to act as a representative of the upper class, in the second he acted as a bureaucrat. This conclusion corresponds to the idea of Kyriakidis who pointed out the ambiguity of collectors' social status: they used to receive rent from their own herds and workshops and from those of the palace as well (which they administered).
