Железный моряк: капитан Джемс Кук на фоне эпохи

Статья посвящена капитану Джемсу Куку, великому мореплавателю, ставшему символом военно-морского могущества Британской империи. Биография этого моряка, всю жизнь беззаветно преданного морю и флоту, проанализирована на фоне событий эпохи Просвещения, ярким представителем которой Кук являлся. Выходец из низов, солдат и военный, гидрограф и ученый, гуманист и колонизатор, Джеймс Кук парадоксальным образом совместил в себе все противоречивые черты XVIII столетия, поднялся на вершины военно-морской элиты Соединенного королевства и превратился в настоящего героя британской экспансии и живую легенду.
