Abstract | In 2019, historians celebrate the 75th anniversary of the liberation of the Soviet Arctic and Northern Norway (East Finnmark) and Finland's withdrawal from the World War II. On September 19, 1944, the Armistice Agreement between the USSR and Great Britain on the one hand, and Finland on the other was signed in Moscow. Thus, Finland was withdrawn from the war, and the country began implementation of the Agreement. However, the war in the North continued: on October 7, 1944, the famous Petsamo-Kirkenes operation began, as a result of which the Soviet troops liberated the Soviet Arctic and Northern Norway (East Finnmark) from German occupation. The international scientific conferences dedicated to these events were held in Moscow and Murmansk. |
