Abstract

The article is the author's appreciative response to three colleagues who commented critically on the lead article (“Lexical Reconstruction for the Reconstruction of Prehistory: Proto-Afrasian Terms Related to Weaponry, Warfare and Other Armed Conflicts”). It focuses on problems of genetic classification, glottochronology, and ancestral home of the Afrasian (Afroasiatic) language macrofamily (response to A.M. Kozintsev); phonetic and semantic criteria of lexical comparison in the reconstruction of proto-language cultural terms, their representiveness in different branches of the language family and the distinction of the original vocabulary from the borrowed. It also touches upon the ratio of the quality of Afrasian and Indo-European reconstruction considering the large numbers of scholars working in the general area of Indo-Europeans studies versus a few active specialists in the field of comparative historical Afrasian studies (responses to G.S. Starostin and A.V. Dybo).

1 Прежде всего хочу выразить признательность коллегам, отозвавшимся на приглашение исключительно доброжелательной редакции “Этнографического обозрения” высказать свои соображения по поводу моей статьи. В наш прагматически-эгоцентрический век такое внимание к чужой работе особенно трогает. В результате получились не просто комментарии и экспертные оценки с очень для меня полезным анализом материала, а три полноценных статьи, содержащих ценные теоретические и методические положения, явно выходящие за рамки предложенной дискуссии.
2 Комментарии А.Г. Козинцева и мои ответы. Начну с комментариев Александра Григорьевича Козинцева, посвященных не узкой теме моей статьи, а спорным проблемам афразийской классификации, хронологии и прародины. Они мне – и, надеюсь, будут и читателям – исключительно полезны, особенно в той части, где приводятся и трактуются экстралингвистические данные: я не особо доверяю своим собственным пониманию и интерпретации генетических, археологических и одонтологических материалов, и анализ антрополога с широчайшим кругозором многое для меня проясняет и уточняет, не говоря уже о том, что я далеко не со всеми фрагментами картины, описанной А.Г. Козинцевым, был знаком. Несколько рассмешила, правда, характеристика меня как “наиболее влиятельного сторонника” переднеазиатской прародины: влиятельны представители мейнстрима в науке, а я всегда держался слегка в стороне, и, думаю, что тех, на кого я влияю, можно пересчитать на пальцах одной руки. Да, был период в мировой афразистике, когда тон в ней задавали И.М. Дьяконов и отчасти А.Б. Долгопольский, но это было до эпохи “интернет-PR”, а сейчас лицо мирового мейнстрима в сравнительно-историческом афразийском языкознании (и всей связанной с ней экстралингвистической проблематики) представляют упоминаемые ниже К. Эрет и Р. Бленч, судя по обилию ссылок на их работы и мнения по всем вопросам. Процитирую А.Г. Козинцева и прокомментирую его слова:

  1. АК: Активным защитником идеи африканской прародины является К. Эрет. Этой идее он приписывает большое мировоззренческое значение (курсив мой. – А.М.), так как она, по его мнению, заставляет отбросить давний предрассудок, будто древняя история Северной Африки была лишь отблеском истории Передней Азии. Древность АА макросемьи К. Эрет оценивает в 15 тыс. лет, а ее прародину помещает в район Африканского Рога Положительное в целом отношение к теории К. Эрета высказал Г.С. Старостин (Starostin 2017: 226). Близка к ней позиция Г.К. Флеминга (Fleming 2006: 140–142) и Р. Бленча (Blench 2006: 159–160)…
4 АМ: Вот что сказано об этом у Г.С. Старостина:
5 …интуитивные мнения (the intuitive opinions) многих ученых, включая Кристофера Эрета, чья афроазиатская концепция совместима с африканской, а не азиатской прародиной с последующей миграцией семитов в Азию…; по Эрету, “в прото-афроазиатском словаре… нет ни одного слова, указывающего на скотоводство или выращивание сельскохозяйственных культур” (Ehret 2000: 290–291)… Следует иметь в виду, что утверждение Эрета основывается на его собственной прото-афроазиатской реконструкции (Ehret 1995), которую часто критикуют на методологической почве… (Starostin 2017: 226).
