Abstract

Since the end of the last century, the approach in which a ship that has reached 20 years of age is sold or taken out of service has been considered wasteful. To extend the service life of ships, the reliability of electrical equipment is of paramount importance, and in conditions where, according to the global trend in shipping, 70–80% of accidents are associated with violations of operating rules, that is, with the human factor, minimal maintenance requirements are imposed on equipment. Since the greatest losses when eliminating the consequences of accidents in the main electrical installation (GEU) occur in powerful propulsion units, the article analyzes emergency cases on ships with powerful electric machines.
