Abstract

The authors offer a survey of the transport investigations at CEMI under the leadership of Academician Nikolay P. Fedorenko in 1963—1985. They highlight the results in the field of cargo and public, regional and city transport. Among them: route planning, truck dispatching problems, the timetable, central depot problem and many others. The solution of these problems required the creation, implementation and functionning special algorithms and computer systems. Simultaneously were designed several computer systems of common purpose for data-processing relevant to the treatment of tumors and other diseases. The authors highlight the practical implementation of this research and collaboration with a range of Soviet organizations. The good work atmosphere at CEMI was beneficial for the progress of a wide range of investigations in the field of programming, data processing, dialogue optimization, etc. To conclude, the authors reflect on the achieved goals and failures in the field of their research.
