AbstractThe article is devoted to the consideration of two regional strategies of the European Union in relation to African countries - the Sahel and the Gulf of Guinea. Today, the interaction between developed and developing regions in the framework of interregional partnership is of particular relevance.   The aim of the article is to analyse the legal framework of the European Union, developed for cooperation with the Sahel and Gulf of Guinea regions, as well as to study the implementation of both strategies in the context of European and African interests. It has also become apparent that each successive summit provides African countries with more initiative to identify new lines of cooperation, making interregional meetings even more effective. The third party's (UN) view of the EU's interaction with African countries presented in the article shows the readiness of the parties to jointly solve both regional and global problems. As a theoretical justification of the research is the theory of neoclassical realism, in which it is possible to consider European-African relations not as the line "state-state", but in the line "international organization - the states" bearing in mind that crucial are the interests of individual state actors. In addition, neoclassical realism allows using the epistemology and methodology based on deductive theories, comparative analysis and agent modelling.   The results of the study are presented in the form of conclusions on the effectiveness of the EU regional strategies for the Sahel and the Gulf of Guinea. A brief comparative analysis of EU preferences for selected regions of Africa is given and prospects for further improvement of strategies are outlined.
