Время удвоения глубины фаланги гоплитов

Согласно Асклепиодоту, автору эллинистического времени, написавшему трактат о тактике, в какой-то момент число воинов в лохе (λόχος), базовом подразделении фаланги, было удвоено с 8 до 16 гоплитов, но он не дает датировки этой реформы. На основе анализа источников в статье показано, что данное нововведение следует связывать с состоявшей из тяжеловооруженных воинов союзной армией Аргоса, Афин, Беотии и Коринфа. Решение об этом было принято на военном совете перед сражением при Немее рядом с Коринфом в 394 г. до н.э., которое было, «вероятно, величайшим гоплитским сражением в истории классической Греции» (The Oxford Handbook of Warfare in the Classical World).

Le tacticien de l’époque hellénistique Asclépiodote donne incidemment une information selon laquelle, à une certaine époque, l’unité de base de la phalange, l’escouade (λόχος), passa de huit à seize hoplites. L’analyse des sources porte à croire que ce doublement de la profondeur de la phalange fut instauré par l’armée coalisée alignant le gros des infanteries lourdes d’Argos, d’Athènes, de Béotie et de Corinthe lors du conseil de guerre qui précéda ladite « bataille de Némée », près de Corinthe (394 avant J.-C.), « perhaps (the) greatest hoplite battle of classical Greece » (The Oxford Handbook of Warfare in the Classical World).
