1 Как известно, литература о Геродоте практически необъятна. Существует в числе прочего и множество коллективных трудов о нем – как максимально общего характера (например, и издательство Кембриджского университета, и лейденское издательство «Бриль» выпустили об «отце истории» издания в формате Companion1), так и тематических2. Думается, что именно последние имеют наибольшую будущность, особенно те из них, которые используют междисциплинарные подходы. 1. Bakker et al. 2002; Dewald, Marincola 2006.

2. Один из самых недавних примеров: Priestley, Zali 2016 (тематика – рецепция труда Геродота в античности и в последующие эпохи; нами в ВДИ опубликована рецензия на эту работу).
2 Образчиком таковых как раз выступает рецензируемая книга «Геродот – повествователь, ученый, историк» – сборник статей или скорее даже коллективная монография, поскольку в ней налицо общий замысел и в определенной степени концептуальное единство. Уже из ее заголовка видно, что галикарнасец интересует ее авторов (в подавляющем большинстве они – филологи) в трояком аспекте: как древнегреческий писатель, как представитель научной мысли (имеются в виду науки за пределами истории, такие как география, медицина, литературоведение) и как историк в собственном смысле слова3. 3. Не можем не отметить, что у нас в аналогичном ракурсе вопрос был поставлен еще более полувека назад А.И. Доватуром (Dovatur 1957).

4 В предисловии к книге Юэн Боуи, являющийся ее ответственным редактором (но, кстати, не автором, что бывает весьма редко: кроме этого предисловия, никаких статей в томе ему не принадлежит), рассказывает (с. V), как она создавалась, – а происходило это, следует отметить, весьма драматично. В июле 2015 г. в Дельфах должна была пройти конференция с названием точно таким же, как у рецензируемого труда. Организацией мероприятия занималась греческая сторона, но из-за финансового кризиса в стране вдруг объявила о его отмене (за четыре дня до начала!). «Дело будущих историков – решить, преобладала ли здесь осторожность или иррациональная паника», – констатирует Боуи. Все же было решено опубликовать материалы несостоявшейся конференции, и результат теперь перед нами.
5 Книга состоит из трех разделов, озаглавленных соответственно «Повествователь», «Ученый», «Историк». Первый открывается статьей Дж. Маринколы, одного из виднейших современных исследователей античного историописания4, «Ὁμηρικώτατος? Повествования о сражениях у Геродота» (с. 3–24). Влияние гомеровского эпоса на геродотовский трактат подчеркивалось опять же многократно5, в том числе и самим Маринколой ранее6. В данном случае он пытается осветить сходство и различие в описании битв в том и другом памятнике. У Геродота ученый берет рассказы о четырех значительнейших битвах греко-персидских войн (Марафон7, Фермопилы8, Саламин9, Платеи10). 4. В частности, его небольшая, но очень полезная книга (Marincola 2001) служит прекрасным общим введением во всю проблематику, связанную с этой темой применительно к Греции.

6 Главной темой «Илиады», как известно, является война, и у «отца истории» она тоже занимает очень значительное место. Причем в обоих случаях, отмечает Маринкола, освещается крупный военный конфликт между Востоком и Западом; так что Гомер просто не мог не быть для Геродота образцом. У Гомера постоянно встречаются формулы, что же касается Геродота, то говорить применительно к нему о формулах в строгом смысле слова, пожалуй, было бы преувеличением (с. 4), но определенными моделями он, безусловно, пользуется при изображении событий.
