Abstract

The article examines the prospects for the transformation of the class structure in the era of post-capitalism.It is shown that the class structure of modern Western society finally ceases to correspond to Marxist ideas about the unquestioning domination of the bourgeoisie and the presence of the main antagonism between the capitalists and the working class. On the upper floors of the social hierarchy there is already the personaliat – a class consisting of people whose main resource is popularity and attention.

The first part of the article explores the discursive aspect of the hegemony of the personaliat.Like any leading class, the personaliat has its own class ideology, consisting of a cult of self-expression, as well as “progressive” post-materialist values that form the core of identity politics and the basis of ecological discourses. This ideology comes into direct conflict with the realities of the “leaving” classes. In these conditions, a growing proportion of representatives of the working class and the bourgeoisie are united by conservative values and a “materialistic” worldview.

Keywordspost-capitalism, the personaliat, social revolution, post-materialism, Marxism, class analysis, social stratification, class ideology.
