On the History of the Formation of Sociology in the Republic of Belarus

The article examines the historical path of sociology in the Republic of Belarus highlighting three stages of the development of sociology at BSU and reveals their content and features. After the restoration of state sovereignty, the range of research is expanding, covering the study of the post-Soviet world transformation, the rooting of the Belarusian statehood, the study of the value orientations of various social groups of the population of the republic, the peculiarities of their socialization and identification. It is concluded that the sociological science at BSU has completed the stage of institutionalization, and nowadays, it is actively developing at the university. The university staff includes well-known specialists who provide highly qualified personnel with competencies to work in conditions of global instability to give an adequate response to the new challenges of the time.
