Abstract

The existing ethnosocial stratification, as well as the resources accumulated by ethnic groups, play an important role in the life of a multi-ethnic region and have a significant impact on all spheres of functioning of society. According to data of expert surveys 2016–2017 and the mass survey of 2018 the fact of ethnic conditioning of chances for social and career advancement in Buryatia and the existence of the so-called national division of labor are stated. Despite the apparently calm interethnic relations, both experts and residents of the republic note latent tensions caused by violation of the population’s request for social justice in various areas of the functioning of the local community. It is necessary to create equal conditions of social promotion for all citizens regardless their ethnicity in order to maintain interethnic harmony in the region.
