Abstract

A review of the problems of the precariat, built mainly around the ideas formulated in G. Standing works, is presented, as well as in reviews of his books in global and domestic academic publications. The context of the formation of his basic ideas is emphasized, as well as prerequisites for resonant responses to his works. Understanding of the problem is discussed with a special focus on its relevance to Russia, on aspects of current situation in the sphere of labor and employment. The forecast is discussed which links technological unemployment with the issues raised in the discourse of G. Standing’s works on precariat. The article concludes with a brief overview of the social problems impending on mankind, arising from the effects of the precariat issue for domestic and foreign sociology. The issue of “dangerous class” puts on the agenda of mankind reflection and realization of at least first steps toward “other” society of the future.
