Abstract

The relevance of workers’ independence (regarding employees in modern Russia) is being substantiated in this article. Presence and value of independence in Russian employees’ work is being determined in comparison to the same index of their colleagues from Europe and Southeastern countries on the basis of data analysis of European Social Survey (ESS, 2006 & 2016) and international studies of attitude to work conducted within ISSP in 2005 and 2015. Sociocultural approach is used for complex analysis of the phenomenon of work independence. On its basis the indicators of independence as a value, belonging, as something that is limited and indifferent are distinguished. It is shown in the article that Russian workers are outsiders in the aspect of independence’s value and its amount in their work, they are also indifferent towards it in comparison to workers from all the other countries except Japan. Despite the fact that Russian and Japanese workers show almost the same amount of independence in their work, the tendency of approaching to role independence in European corporate culture is more typical for Russians. The referent type of independence for Russian workers is the type in which this tendency is the most valuable and integrated into their work.
