…We are Nihilists, All of Us

The speaker views nihilism as an overriding characteristic of Dostoevsky’s novels and suggests that, for Dostoevsky, nihilism is a deep personal ail holding a human being back from perceiving deep ontological truths, rather than a social ulcer or “a malady of the age”. From this angle, Dostoevsky might receive quite a new reading, challenging the European and global takes on social and political history.
