Abstract

The article is devoted to the analysis of mantra and sutra as verbal formulas for the construction of texts that function differently in Ancient Indian society. If mantra is a verbal component of a religious ritual, then sutra is used as a form of constructing a scientific and philosophical text. The repetition of a rhythmically organized mantra allows you to focus on the subject of meditation, to turn to the object of mystical contemplation, while a logical sequence of sutras conveys a scientific idea of the object of study. Along with mantra and sutra, the terms yantra and tantra are also analyzed, meaning the techniques of a visual instrument for meditation and a complex philosophical and religious symbolic text. The pragmatics of the text, the possibility of its functioning in different types of discourse (for example, ritual and scientific) gave rise to various formal methods of constructing texts of Ancient India.
