We offer a selection of texts from the archive of S.I. Kartsevsky translated into Russian. The archive is kept in Switzerland. These materials were published in full by us in Саhiers Ferdinand de Saussure 72, 2019. The texts (1913–1914) are printed in Russian for the first time. These are excerpts from the correspondence between Kartsevsky as a student and his teacher, university professor Charles Balli. The texts shed light on how some questions of linguistics were covered 100 years ago.
