Abstract

The article explores the construction of the image of Lolita in the novel. Seemingly, the image of Lolita is a complete construct of Humbert’s narration. However, Nabokov’s way of composing the novel allows certain empirics contributing to formation of Lolita’s image to escape the control of the narrator. In order to understand how Lolita’s image is constructed, it is necessary to analyze how Nabokov constructs Humbert’s narration about Lolita. Humbert’s narration contains certain hidden autonomous signs that diverge from visible dimension of his narration and modify the portrait of Lolita.
