Abstract

This article discusses the relationship between the concepts of emotional abilities, emotional intelligence, emotional creativity (EC) and implicit theories of creativity (ITC). J. Averill’s Emotional Creativity Inventory (ECI) is validated for Russian student samples (N = 631). A five-factor structure is established in contrast with the original ECI three-factor structure. Cronbach's α for all scales exceeds 0.7, which indicates a high reliability of scale items. The relationship between ECI scales and emotional intelligence (EI), “psychological mindedness” and implicit theories of creativity is analyzed. Рreparedness to reflexion of emotion and effectiveness are positively associated with all scales of interpersonal EI; novelty  is also correlated with scales of interpersonal EI (positively) and intrapersonal EI (negatively); authenticity  is positively linked to most EI scales. The established emotional diversity factor potentially captures the phase of the emergence of emotions, when the aspects of formation and recognition of emotions are not yet separated. The ITC scale activity is linked to three ECI scales, including emotional diversity. This and other established correlations let us assume that implicit theories of creativity are included in the nascence of EC. The Emotional Creativity Inventory validated for the Russian population demonstrates good psychometric properties with 5 scales. The grounds for these scales is supported by correlations with the emotional-personal domain variables and implicit theories of creativity
