Abstract

The modern and fundamental ideas of L.I. Antsiferova in developmental psychology are shown. The article is focused on the discussion points of the principle of the diachronic of mental development: correlation and close interaction of progress and regress processes. The coexistence of processes of progress and regress in early ontogenesis and their manifestations in adulthood are shown. The concept of regression as reversible dedifferentiation, which leads to low differentiated systems in the actualized experience of Yu.I. Alexandrova et al. is discussed. Arguments are advanced that indicate the irreversible nature of development, the close interaction of regressive and progressive processes. The differences between the concepts of regression and regress, the concepts of change and development, the possibility of manifestation of both regression and progressive forms of behavior as multi-level systems of behavior are shown. The question of transitional forms of regression and developmental progress as anticipating phenomena in the reorganization of behavior is discussed. Examples of diachronic development are considered: the formation of selective behavior in infants to different visual information as demonstration of progressive and regressive development; the emergence of a smile and laughter in ontogenesis from "endogenous" to social  forms and the possibility of inappropriate smiles and laughter as the "relaxation" of stress in adults. The coexistence of “infantile” and “mature” defenses (psychological defenses and coping behavior) under conditions of acute and everyday stress also indicates the possibility of simultaneous participation of progressive and regressive processes in the regulation of behavior. The notion of the dominance of regression processes in the elderly and senile age significantly changes within the framework of the development of problems of prosperous aging, where successful compensation of losses is possible when actualizing the psychological resources of a person, which is brightly individual in nature. The analysis shows the present and the advanced nature of the scientific ideas of L.I. Antsiferova.
