Abstract

History of discovering and studying of a new mineral of eudialyte group — siudaite Na8(Mn22+Na)Ca6Fe33+Zr3NbSi25O74(OH)2Cl·5H2O — is described. The mineral was found in peralkaline rocks at the Eveslogchorr Mt. (Khibiny alkaline massif, Kola Peninsula, Russia) by Lukash Kruszewski during a field trip as a part of the activity of the Young Geologists’ Club of the University of Warsaw. Polish scientists needed help in study of the mineral and they contacted Moscow scientists. Mineral appears to be a new representative of the group which consists of 28 minerals. It was suggested by Lukash Kruszewski to name the mineral siudaite as a tribute to Polish mineralogist and geochemist Rafaі Siuda (b. 1975). Mineral and its name have been approved by the IMA Commission on New Minerals, Nomenclature and Classification. Although the mineral has Polish name and is deposited in Warsaw, in the Museum of Earth PAS with the catalogue number MZI III/1/541, the history of its origin and studying are related with Russia.
