Aleksey P.Pavlov about National Parks: Memories and Reflections

The article contains reminiscences of Aleksey P.Pavlov (1854–1929), geologist and professor of Imperial Moscow University, about Yellowstone National Park (USA), which he visited in 1891. His unpublished notes, used in lectures and talks with students, are stored in the Russian Academy of Sciences archives. Based on Yellowstone example, A.P. Pavlov proposed the idea of National Park on Karadag Mountain (Crimea) in 1922. Samples of geyserites, travertines, and native sulfur, brought by Pavlov from Yellowstone, are presented in Vernadsky State Geological Museum (RAS) collections.
