Abstract

The article deals with the famous Soviet documentary film maker I.P. Kopalin and his film crew’s unknown visit to China that took place in February-March 1949. The documents found in three Russian archives gave the author an understanding of importance of his mission in implementation of the task set to the film makers by the Soviet leadership: coverage of the most important military-political and economic events in the liberated areas of North-East China. Kopalin’s diary contains information about the group’s stay in China, his meetings with high ranking Chinese leaders as well as about the situation in the country at the turning point in the history of China. Kopalin's never previously published diary is a source for deepening the studies in the field of the history of Soviet-Chinese relations.
