Abstract

One of the most important problems of the Republic of Armenia is the unfavorable demographic situation. The demographic projection indicates that long-term population growth is only possible through repatriation. Cases of mass repatriation are mostly tied to circumstances that are threatening to the Armenians. The integration of repatriates in Armenian society, in addition to socio-economic conditions, also depends on the attitudes towards social relations between repatriates and host society, which itself does not represent a whole (sub-ethnic (regional) groups). In this research we’re using the databases of mass sociological surveys to examine social distances perceived in the Armenian society in relation to sub-ethnic groups of Armenians, including Western Armenians, Karabakh Armenians, Iranian Armenians, Armenian Catholics, Azeri Armenians, Islamized Armenians of Turkey, and Armenian sectarians. The author identified the worldview complexes that determine social distances. It is concluded that Armenians’ attitude towards sub-ethnic groups gives rise to social, economic and political problems that hinder the formation and development of a political nation. The results of the study can be used to develop strategies for solving the listed problems.

2 Основная территория исторической Армении раздроблена горными цепями, которые образуют закрытые географические регионы. Там и образовались исторические регионы Армении. Трудности коммуникации между ними, особенно в длительный зимний период, способствовали развитию экономической самодостаточности, что снижало необходимость интенсивных экономических, социальных и культурных взаимоотношений. Данная специфика затрудняла формирование и сохранение сильного единого централизованного государства и способствовала развитию местной идентичности, а также образованию и сохранению субэтнических групп. Они отличались своими диалектами, нравами, бытом, особенностями жизнедеятельности.
3 Григорьян К. Э. в своей диссертационной работе пишет: «Появление субэтнических групп армянского народа связано непосредственно с его историко-политическими судьбами. Находясь географически на пересечении важнейших путей между Востоком и Западом, между могущественными державами (Римской, затем Византийской, а позже Османской империями и Ираном), Армения не просто постоянно ощущала их давление, но и неоднократно претерпевала расчленение на две части – восточную и западную, которые в разные периоды входили в состав этих государств, где подвергались насильственным переселениям, религиозной ассимиляции и даже, как в Турции – откровенному геноциду. Кроме этого, армянский народ неоднократно испытывал опустошительные нашествия и со стороны пришлых завоевателей – арабов, тюрок-сельджуков, монголов, турок-османов, что приводило к его массовой вынужденной миграции в другие страны» [Григорьян, 2002].
4 На протяжении всей истории в Армении существовали разные формы политической организации: независимые государственные образования, единое государство, полунезависимое государство в составе империй, религиозно-общинное самоуправление. Сохранить целостность армянского этноса а XIV-XIX вв., когда части Армении находились в составе разных империй, удалось благодаря армянскому алфавиту и единому религиозно-литературному армянскому языку, на котором велась литургия. Также важную роль играла автокефальная теологически своеобразная Армянская Апостольская Церковь, на основе которой даже в условиях отсутствия государственности развивалась единая армянская высокая культура [Геворгян, 1992].
5 С V века периодически происходил отток армянского населения с территории исторической Армении, из-за чего образовались армянские диаспоры в Европе, Азии и Африке (в Египте). В современной Европе, России и Америке многочисленная армянская диаспора начала формироваться с середины XIX века, когда в Османской империи усилились гонения на немусульман, в том числе и (западных) армян. Массовая депортация западных армян из Османской империи происходила в течение и после геноцида армян 1915–1922 гг. в Османской империи и Турции.
