At the crossroads of global and local. Chiles Antarctic Policy at the present stage

The article examines Chile's policy in Antarctica, its main directions and priorities, developing in the context of the special international legal status of the Antarctic territory. The special role of the "Antarctic sector" in the worldview of Chileans is noted, due to historical, geographical and economic factors. The country's current policy in this area is focused on the implementation of multidisciplinary scientific research of a fundamental and applied nature, the support of professional organizations, the development of the infrastructure of scientific stations, and the expansion of public interest in Antarctica. Considerable attention is paid to educational work with young people, special projects for schoolchildren. A characteristic feature of the Chilean position is the desire to build a balanced and purposeful long-term strategy that meets both national interests and international legal norms.
