Abstract

The article tells the story of historical mission to Spain of Tsar’s delegation headed by Ambassador P.I.Potemkin (December 1667 – May 1668). The result of the mission was establishing regular diplomatic relations between Russia and Spain. It describes how the ambassadors acquainted themselves and studied local morals and customs as well as protocol rules of Spanish сourt, behavior of King, Queen and courtiers during the ceremony of exchange of Letters of Credence. Special attention is paid to persistence and inventiveness of P.I.Potemkin while fulfilling his mission.
