How the British Tried to Turn the Russian North into a Colony

The article deals with the British attempt to colonize the northern region of the Russian state during the period of Troubles. This problem, despite its relevance and scientific significance, remains poorly studied in modern Russian and practically unexplored in British historiography. The author pays special attention to the study of the plans of the British government to colonize, seize Russian territories, change the form of government in Russia, and finance the operation at the expense of the local population. The colonization plan proposed by the military (Thomas Chamberlain, Captain J. Margeret) was discussed at a meeting of the Privy Council of the Kingdom under the leadership of King James I Stuart. However, while preparations were underway for a military invasion, Tsar Mikhail Romanov, elected by the people, took the Russian throne, and the Troubles were over. As a result, the British plans to turn Russia into their colony were not destined to come true.
