Abstract

This article is devoted to the history of the formation of socio-political thought of the Turkmen people. One of the first and brightest representatives of the modernist Jadit trend among the Turkmen was Muhammedkuli Atabaev. The main platform where M. Ababaev and other enlighteners could express their thoughts was the Trans-Caspian Native Newspaper, founded by the administration of the Trans-Caspian region of the Turkestan Governor General in 1914. It was the first newspaper in the Turkmen language. The publication for the first time gave a selection of translations of articles by M. Atabaev into Russian. The articles give an idea of the problems faced, according to M. Atambayev, by Turkmen society and methods of overcoming them.
