What Was Said and Not Said in the Structure of Late Imperial and Early Soviet Wills

The Soviet legal system, which included both basic decrees and a large volume of complementary decrees and circulars, rebuilt the outdated imperial legislation, which still did not lose its legitimacy to the full extent. Transition to a New Economic Policy and creation of a complete legislative framework (including the Civil Code 1922) made possible the work of notaries and the development of the institution of inheritance. The will was a clear legal act, but within it its own structure developed, which depended on the different social roles of the one who left the will. In the 1920s, the continuity of structures in wills was preserved, which, in the early Soviet era, ensured the flexibility of law enforcement.
