Abstract

For the first time in Russian historiography, the article describes in detail the activities of the Permanent commission for technical assistance of the Council for Mutual Economic Assistance in 1961—1967. This commission had been the main instrument for working out a coordinated economic policy of the CMEA countries towards developing countries since 1961. The article observes prerequisites for its creation and main directions of its activities. The foreign trade organizations of the CMEA countries tried to expand cooperation in the supply of equipment and the construction of industrial facilities in developing countries. The documents of CMEA archive describe numerous problems these organizations faced in their attempts. Extensive data material on the volume of technical assistance of CMEA countries to developing countries achieved by 1967 is provided.
