«Ни наше гражданское состояние, ни наш церковный строй никогда не будут прежними»: события Славной революции 1688—1689 гг. в колониях Новой Англии

Статья посвящена ходу событий Славной революции 1688—1689 гг. в колониях Новой Англии и идеологическому обоснованию восстания в Бостоне 18 апреля 1689 г., свергнувшего власть генерал-губернатора Доминиона Новой Англии и провозгласившего возвращение к порядкам, существовавшим до отзыва хартии 1629 г. На основе анализа многочисленных памфлетов и проповедей этого периода автор статьи приходит к выводу о том, что восстание против деспотического режима было вызвано стремлением колонистов Массачусетса защитить исконные права подданных английской короны, прежде всего, право собственности и право на представительное правление, в то время как религиозная риторика пуританских авторов отошла в период событий «Славной революции» на второй план. Отказавшись признать легитимность новой власти в Массачусетсе, Вильгельм III понимал необходимость компромисса с колониальной элитой для стабилизации ситуации, для чего даровал Массачусетсу новую хартию в 1691 г.
