Abstract

The article is devoted to the 1941—1945 debates between the anti-Hitler coalition countries — the USSR on the one hand and Great Britain and the USA on the other — on post-war settlement in Central and South-Eastern Europe in case of Allied powers’ victory in World War II. Based on diplomatic documents, correspondence of J. Stalin, W. Churchill and F. Roosevelt, memoirs and diaries of political figures and diplomats of that period, the author recreates and analyzes not only the debates between the USSR, Great Britain and the United States. He also analyzes the evolution of Stalin’s position towards Churchill’s plans for the partition of Germany and the creation of federations (confederations) in the CEEC. The post-World War II border changes in Central and South-Eastern Europe were discussed by Moscow, London and Washington in the context of ideas about their areas of interest, post-war security principles and safeguards to prevent the threat of a new world war. The discussions began in August 1941 by the Atlantic Charter and ended in 1945 in Yalta and Potsdam. First, the author examines the plans of German Führer and Nazi Minister of Foreign Affairs for a new order in Central and South-Eastern Europe and the system of interstate and interethnic relations established under the leadership of Nazi Germany. Then, he analyzes the Soviet, British and American proposals, which the Allied Powers opposed to the Nazi plans, taking into account the presence of two camps in the Resistance movement in both occupied and enemy countries.
