Abstract

The article is essentially a review of a certain selection of articles of the scientific project “Self-organizing structures of a medieval city: genesis, classification, mechanisms of functioning”, which considers various kinds of communities: first of all, united by a common territory — community-castle-parish church complexes in the 11th — 12th centuries, city communes, as well as territorial-administrative districts (contrads) within their walls. On the other hand, communities formed on a professional basis are also studied — craft shops, trade and business associations, universities.Particular attention is paid to the ties that bind the unity of self-organizing communities, but also to the dialectic of conflicts within and between structures.

Keywordsmedieval city, self-regulating communities, craft corporations, conflicts, city confederations, universities
