Abstract

The article shows the rise of the Moscow Principality; the hardships of the tax regime established by the conquerors (Horde khans); the gradual strengthening of the Principality, both financial and military; liberation from foreign yoke, the unification of Russian lands around Moscow, the establishment of a monopoly on coinage.
