Abstract

The article presents the results of research on the demographic statistics, population dynamics, birth and death rates, and age composition of Buryats residing in the Republic of Buryatia in the 1959– 2010s. Drawing on the analysis of Soviet and Russian population censuses, we examine the reproduction statistics and trends of demographic transition among the Buryats. We show various factors that have an impact on this transition, such as social, class, and educational structure of the society, degree of its urbanization, state policies and economic reforms. We argue that the population numbers of the Buryats during the period under consideration increased significantly due to their starting position at the earlier stages of demographic modernization that were characterized by high birth rates and comparatively low mortality rates.

1 Важнейшей задачей демографии как науки является исследование численности населения, меняющейся под влиянием естественного движения и миграций. Вместе с тем в разных районах страны в зависимости от складывающихся условий всегда существовала своя специфика роста/сокращения количества жителей. В этом отно- шении и в Советском Союзе, и — позднее — в Российской Федерации выделялись регионы с полиэтничным составом населения и прежде всего республики, особен- ности демографического развития которых во многом определялись показателями рождаемости и смертности национальных групп, проживающих на их территории. В связи с этим изучение этнических аспектов воспроизводства представляет боль- шой интерес: позволяет лучше понять процессы народонаселения в многонацио- нальных регионах, помогает в объяснении специфики их экономического, полити- ческого и культурного развития в исторической ретроспективе. Объектом нашего исследования являются буряты Республики Бурятия — именно здесь проживало и проживает больше половины совокупной численности этноса.
2 Отдельные сюжеты демографического развития бурятского народа в досовет- ский период затрагивались в работах А.П. Окладникова (Окладников 1937), С.А. Токарева (Токарев 1953: 37–52), Б.О. Долгих (Долгих 1960). Динамика численности бу- рят в XIX–XX вв. рассматривалась в трудах Б.С. Санжиева (Санжиев 1974), Д.Д. Ни- маева (Нимаев 1989), Б.Р. Зориктуева (Зориктуев 1982), К.Д. Басаевой (Басаева 1980). Количественные изменения в составе этноса в контексте изучения других на- родов Советского Союза анализировались В.И. Козловым (Козлов 1982) и С.И. Бру- ком (Брук 1981). Интерес к рассматриваемой проблеме усилился в постсоветский период в связи с облегчением доступа к статистической информации (см., напр.: Базаров, Курас 1996; Балдано 2002; Елаев 2000; Жуковская 2013; Затеев, Хараев 2002; Рандалов 1996; Мангатаева 1995; Михайлов, Рандалов 1968; Ханхараев 1993: 115–117).
3 Среди зарубежных исследований демографии народов Сибири можно выделить труды К. Хамфри (Humphrey 2002), Т. Хелениака (Heleniak 2012), А. Петрова (Petrov 2009), Г. Фондал (см., напр., ее статью в соавторстве с А.А. Сириной: Fondahl, Sirina 2006). Работы К. Хамфри посвящены антропологии, религии и хозяйственной куль- туре бурят, изредка в них затрагиваются и проблемы народонаселения. В трудах Т. Хелениака, А. Петрова и Г. Фондал обзорно рассматриваются численность и миг- рации коренных народов Сибири в постсоветский период, преимущественно на тер- ритории Севера и Востока России.
4 Бесспорно, отечественные и зарубежные ученые смогли расширить знания о де- мографическом развитии бурятского народа. Однако в центре их внимания оказа- лись в основном проблемы численности и территориального размещения этноса. Сравнительный анализ суммарного коэффициента рождаемости и средней продол- жительности жизни в разные исторические периоды не проводился; до сих пор мно- гие вопросы демографического развития одной из крупнейших национальностей Востока России остаются неизученными. К настоящему моменту возникла необхо- димость в проведении исследования, направленного на рассмотрение особенностей демографического перехода бурят.
