Abstract

New experimental data on the effect of small additions of nanoparticles on the mechanical properties of metal matrix composites made by cold pressing of powders and further sintering in vacuum are obtained. As a matrix, both sintered aluminum powder and mixture of aluminum and copper (1.5% vol.) powders with nanoadditives were used.  Aluminum oxide nanoparticles in concentrations of 0.01-0.15% vol were used as the hardener. It is shown that the strength characteristics of these materials under mechanical tests for tension, compression, bending and the conditional yield point are significantly increased.
