Abstract

Tahar Ben Jelloun (born in 1947) is an outstanding writer, whose numerous works - in poetry and prose, along with journalistic and research (he is a social psychologist by education)- are testimonies to the life of his homeland Morocco, as well as other countries of the Orient and the real life of France, his present abode.

He has not only authored vivid and creative books on the necessity to liberate the country socially and politically both from the foreign yoke and the shackles of the unjust world order, that has been developing in the minds of the Moroccan men and women, but contributed invaluably to the analysis of the present state of migrants and refugees in modern France. He created numerous portraits of his compatriots who had suffered the breakup with their homeland as an existential drama and never lost hope to see their motherland again.

Tahar Ben Jelloun made a special contribution to the development of the Maghreb literary in French, remaining nowadays a significant phenomenon in the world literary process.
