Abstract

The article is devoted to Saudi Arabia’s attempts to prevent the spread and support of terrorism and its ideology. It is written mostly on the basis of personal experience of the author who visited the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA) and gathered the material as the result of his interviews with different Saudi people involved in the struggle against terrorism.

Recently the Saudi authorities launched unusual campaign of disarming the terrorists not by the military means, but by so-called “soft force” which includes: psychological workshops, medical treatment, sport workout, drawing, friendly conversations, the study of true Islam and… 5-star accommodation in the special “The Care Rehabilitation Center». The former extremists are treated there with care and politeness and are addressed as “beneficiaries”. More than 90% of the arrested terrorists, mostly citizens of KSA, who were brought to the Center, successfully reconsidered their views and refused from the terrorist activity. And all that due to the special program of the Center which individually treats each client as a human being who lost his way and went astray.

The authorities truly believe that it is worth spending millions of dollars on saving unfortunate people who were brainwashed and became themselves the hostages of the extremists’ ideology. Due to this program, as its authors expect, life of thousands potential victims of future terrorist attacks will be saved.
