Abstract

The article analyzes the current state of the Russian-Egyptian partnership with an accent on its economic component. Currently, this partnership is based on solid foundation. It is completely deprived of any political prejudices, based on pragmatic considerations free from external influence and is dictated exclusively by the national interests of Russia and Egypt.

The author examines three major projects of Russian-Egyptian and Russian-African investment cooperation: the construction of the ad-Dabaa nuclear power plant, the creation of Russian industrial zone near Port Said, and the delivery and assembly of 1,300 railway passenger cars. He notes the importance of these projects for the development of the Egyptian economy and foreign economic relations of the country. The construction of nuclear power plant will be of special significance for Egypt, comparable with the construction of Aswan High Dam.

The construction of a nuclear power plant will bring life to one of the least developed regions of Egypt - the Mersa Matruh province. The author gives a picture of mutual trade in goods and services, describes the problems that hinder its further development and notes promising areas of bilateral trade: limited export funds for a number of goods, the lack in some cases of proper interaction between the Egyptian and Russian authorized bodies and business. Among the most promising groups of products for increasing Russian exports, he notes the products of Agro-Industrial Complex, mechanical engineering, forestry and lumber industries.
