Деинтеллектуализация американской социологии: попытка истории

Когда-то социологи обсуждали «социальное» как феномен общественной жизни и знакомили массового читателя с этим широким кругом вопросов. Даже в годы Второй мировой войны социологи привлекали широкую общественность к проблемам природы общества, к дискуссиям об альтруизме и о направлении социальной эволюции. Однако в результате ряда волн профессионализации социологической деятельности эти вопросы исчезли из тематики академической социологии и из популярных работ социологов. Начиная с 1960-х гг. социологи предлагают публике иное: поддерживать общественные движения. Споры в социологии отныне сдерживаются «профессиональными» ожиданиями и политическими табу. Но прежние заботы социологов и их читателей, такие как совместимостьсоциализма и дарвинизма, природа общества, процесс социальной эволюции – не перестали интересовать людей. И если социологи этот спрос не удовлетворяли, то это делали не-социологи, в результате социология, в отличие от групп поддержки, теряла и читателя, и свои претензии на освоение этих проблемных полей.
