Abstract

The article examines thematic repertoire of the journal “Sociological Studies” on the issues of empirical research methods. Analyzed papers are classified in various groups depending on the dominance of a certain instrumental, methodological context in them. According to the statistics of publications in this area for 2000–2018, we can indirectly assess the contribution of the journal to the development of methodological issues. For comparison, the statistics of publications in similar areas in the journal “Sociology: Methodology, Methods, Mathematical Modeling” for 1991–2018 is given. The authors come to the conclusion that, judging by the thematic repertoire (on methodological issues) of the publications, “Sociological Studies” represents main methodological directions and themes, based on its mission of a leading professional wide-profile journal. At the same time, in the light of recent methodological challenges and taking into account domestic realities, the need to expand this repertoire is emphasized.
