Abstract | In an interview with Zh.T. Toshchenko, editor-in-chief of the "Sociological Studies" journal (1995-2017), recalls key moments of his editor’s work: outstanding scholars whose contributions to the journal had been prime sources for its successful take-off, how the meetings of the Editorial Board were held, how relations with the authors was arranged, as well as with the journal’s founder (USSR Academy of Sciences), what were its editorial policies. He also reflects on the role of sociology in society, priority topics, problems faced by scholars and teachers of sociology, as well as "weak points" of Russian sociology. Arguably, rules that Zh.T. Toshchenko was guided by in steering the journal and which he briefly retells, may serve as an example of top-grade editor’s work. |
