Society of Trauma: between Evolution and Revolution (а round table discussion)

Analysis of the world/state/society proceeds along well-known path – revolution/evolution. In the world today, however, there is such a phenomenon as societies of trauma. Respective countries are for a long time stagnating and/or degraded in development, they are in recession losing previous achievements. This article discusses features of the trauma of the society: 1) lack of clear-cut development strategy and understanding of the development prospects; 2) economic degradation; 3) lack of constructive political forces; 4) transitions of power resources into capital and vice versa; 5) withdrawal, voluntary/forced, of a majority of active population from political participation; 6) absence of a state ideology and/or national idea; 7) ignoring national interests, or their excessive absolutization; 8) growing social inequality; 9) political strain and loss of national sovereignty; 10) lack of respect for traditions and experiences of the country or, conversely, archaic, long-forgotten ethnic, religious and patriarchal attitudes. Particular attention is paid to Russia, as a traumatized society, for in its development, rejecting socialist past and proclaiming new, unexplored paths in development, it is in a state of uncertainty of their future. In this context, an analysis of the obstacles to be overcome cannot be based on either evolutionary or revolutionary paths of development.
