Abstract

The article discusses intertextual links between the novel Crime and Punishment and the first book of the Torah, Genesis. In his attempt to offer humanity a new law, Raskolnikov dismisses God’s covenant with Abraham. According to Dostoevsky, the human desire to be a legislator runs contrary to the legal order established by God’s will. In the epilogue of the novel, Raskolnikov returns to «.the ages of Abraham and his flocks».
