Abstract

The article outlines the history of A. I. Turgenev’s publication in the 5th volume of Sovremennik. His contributions, selected by Pushkin (Turgenev’s letters to Prince A. N. Golitsyn), are analyzed from the standpoint of their content and biographical aspect. The motives that prompted Pushkin, the editor, to revise the genre of the Chronicles of the Russian, are outlined. The newly-found autograph, Pushkin’s editorial notes on Turgenev’s manuscript, are comprehensively researched. The history of the authors’ joint work on the publication as a part of the chronicle of the January 1837 events is recreated. The dating of the notes, that are amid the poet’s last autographs, is proposed.
