Abstract

The article deals with one of the aspects of self-representation in A. А. Fet’s memoirs The Early Years of My Life. The «kirassir» part of the memoirs represents him primarily as a serviceman, with Fet the Poet being an episodic character; as Ja. Polonsky remarks, the memoirist describes his poems «as something extraneous». In the memoirs, Fet the Poet and Fet the Kirassir are two separate characters, and this partially correlates with the poet’s «double» image, since he was routinely perceived as both a «lyrical» and a «practical» person. At the same time, the storyline of the episodic «encounters» with Fet the Poet on the pages of the memoirs is sequentially constructed, compositionally organized and informed with an inner drama — with protasis, development, culmination and a dramatic finale.
